Overview

"There were girls, girls and more girls. Whistling girls. Screaming girls. Singing girls," The Times wrote of The Beatles arrival at Kennedy International Airport in 1964. The Times article continued, speculating that the rock 'n' roll group - which was greeted at JFK by more than 3,000 fans - could become "Britain's most successful export since the bowler." Times staff photographer Carl T. Gossett, Jr. photographed this group of Beatlemaniacs in hysterics across the street from The Plaza Hotel, where The Beatles were staying in a 10-room suite with a guard on duty 24 hours a day.
